Xbox Live Is Back Online After ‘Major Outage’

Xbox Live is back online. After an outage knocked out the gaming service for several hours on Tuesday, Microsoft’s gaming platform is back in service. In a tweet posted on X Tuesday evening, the company confirmed its issues have been resolved.

When the service was down, gamers were unable to log into their profiles which prevented them from being able to play games on their consoles. According to Microsoft’s Xbox Status support page, the “major outage” was first reported around 2:07 p.m. ET. “You may not be able to sign-in to your Xbox profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems. Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won’t be available,” a message accompanying the issue read.

Since users couldn’t log in, even games downloaded locally to their Xboxes wouldn’t open.

There is still no word on what caused the issue. When contacted for comment, an Xbox spokesperson directed CNET to the Xbox Support account on X, which has been tweeting out similar updates.

Users on the platform were quick to voice their anger about the issue, with “Xbox” becoming the top trending topic on X in the United States.
